If there is a competition of the sneakers for defenders between Adidas and Nike, what is immediately come into mind is Harden and Kyrie. Today we want to compare two pairs of present hot-sale sneakers, Harden Vol.3 and Kyrie 5.
Harden vol.3 & Kyrie 5
The right side
The reverse side
I played about 10 basketball matches (about 20 hours) with Harden vol.3. The outsole of Harden vol.3 has obvious wear trace. And after 5 basketball matches (about 10 hours) with Kyrie 5, the stripes of outsole is still the same. Kyrie has XDR logo, and Harden is with crystal outsole.

Kyrie 5 on my visual angle
Now I will compare the difference of these two sneakers’ performance.
Fit & Support
The most comfortable part of Kyrie 5 is the front-end forefoot. After fastening the Dionaea muscipula structural shoe laces, it can fit the foot well.
From above picture, you can see the front-end forefoot of Harden vol.3, my toes can move freely, it’s a little bigger. My size of NIKE is EUR43. But the size of Adidas EUR43 is a little bigger, but EUR42.5 is not big enough. So I only have to wear terry socks to fit the shoes.
The good fitting of Kyrie 5 makes you to have the confidence to do every movements. The stiff TPU support well the sides of the shoes.
It can’t fasten the mesh fabric of Harden Vol. 3. And the elastic cord in the front is also only a trimming. The stiff TPU on the sides of elastic cord can support the side direction.
Cushion & Starting
The insole of Harden Vol.3 is the best Boost configuration which has been improved after testing several generations’ Boost sneakers. The forefoot is elastic and the heelpiece part is comfortable.
The forefoot of Kyrie is also elastic. The toes can feel the resilient feedback obviously. But the cushion of heelpiece part is not enough. You need to avoid the heelpiece falling on the ground firstly.
I have tried to change the shoe-pad to solve this kind of problem:
The torsion resistant shoe-pad Nazaroo can make the shoe body to be more stronger. But it can’t solve the cushion problem of heelpiece. And the weight of the Kyrie 3 will be the same as Harden 2. It will be too heavy.
For Ortholite shoe-pad or nut shoe-pad, you must choose the thicken model on the heelpiece. It will solve the cushion problem on heelpiece.
For the torsion resistance, my picture may let your surprised. It’s the fact that the torsion resistance of Harden vol. 3 is worse than Kyrie 5.
But the problem of torsion resistance is not very important, as normally people don’t often have high strength competitions.
Traction & Durability
On the condition without dust, the traction of Harden Vol.3 is better than Kyrie 5, as it uses classic herringbone. But the condition of basketball courts without dust is unusual.
The traction performance is more important than cushion performance.
The front and rear traction of Harden Vol.3 is stable. It’s above average. But the lateral traction is not better than Kyrie 5. If the lateral traction of Harden vol.3 is brake, Kyrie 5 can catch well the ground. The lateral traction of Kyrie 5 is more stable. The reason is the outsole grains of Kyrie 5 is extended to both sides of shoe body, but Harden vol.3 is not.
For durability, the rub fastness of Harden vol. 3’s outsole is not very good. I guess you need to prepare two pairs of sneakers to alternate to prolong the lift-span. And I’m worried if the Dionaea muscipula Flywire of Kyrie 5 will crack when fastening it.
Overall, Kyrie 5 is more suitable to the players who have good physical condition. You can start fast and jump high. The fit and support of Kyrie 5 is good. You can do any movements that you want. It’s comfortable to wear Harden vol.3. For the players who try Boost by the first time, Harden vol.1 is too stiff, Harden vol. 2 is too narrow, but Harden Vol.3 has the excellent performance as other Adidas high-end basketball shoes. For high strength competition, I will choose Kyrie 5. For playing basketball as normal sports, I will choose Harden Vol.3 which is more comfortable.
